🎈Last September, I celebrated a milestone birthday, one whose primary purpose was to signal, unequivocally, that I am firmly in the middle of middle-age. Rather than plan a simple weekend getaway or buy a Porsche (although both sounded extremely appealing), I organized an epic four-and-a-half-month tour-de-force through Asia. December 2022 thru April 2023. Alone.

Had you seen the outward me on the street, you’d have thought I was just another over-zealous tourist. Inside, though, my heart was smashed. Jack was gone.

👑 After escorting him to Heathrow on the train, we checked his bags and he rounded the bend to security, at which point he promptly disappeared behind the makeshift walls. Poof. Our Big Adventure was over.

👑 Oftentimes, we can’t find the right words to express the remarkable depth and complicated beauty of love. Jack is so much more than my little brother; he is my dearest friend. Strangely, I see him as my own child at times.

👑 Showing Jack some of my favorite London haunts (while discovering a few new ones!) was amazing! Our four-day, three-night campout on The Mall was the experience of a lifetime, one that I will never forget.

👑 Now, I know I’m always apologizing for being behind on social, but I wanted to — needed to! — be truly present with Jack. Responsibilities of day-to-day living were suspended. No pressure, no demands. For 10 glorious days, we were kids again and I didn’t want to miss a single, solitary minute of it.
